Scuba Diving Gear
Scuba diving gear is your ticket to a completely new world that will blow you away. There is so much life and a completely different landscape, usually just miles away, with its own landmarks and sites that you’ve probably missed. What do you need to get there?
First off you’ll need your air tank and regulator. It sounds really complex, but a regulator is just a simple breathing device you stick in your mouth and inhale from. It connects to your air tank and prevents any air from getting in or out without you breathing. This all straps into your Buoyancy Control Device (BCD). Sort of like a backpack, but also like a life vest, this device controls how you rise and descend in the water. It also helps you stay afloat on the surface.
Those devices keep you alive, but your fins and mask put you in control. Fins help you move easily through the water without wasting energy. They also give you firm control of your direction. Your mask lets you see clearly what’s around you so you can enjoy the sights of the underwater world, while also being aware of your own person should an emergency happen.
Finally, if you’re not living in tropical waters, you’ll need a wetsuit or dry suit to help you survive in the very cold water as you descend. These suits insulate you effectively and reduce drag so that you can move easier.
There are plenty more accessories to consider to aid in your comfort and safety while diving. Check out your local retailers or online to see what’s available.
